Favorite Jazz Piano Albums?
Our first jazz album is the Art Tatum album titled Piano Starts Here.
It has his first four studio recordings, from March 21 1933, as well as the
April 2, 1949 "Just Jazz" live concert. Sony recorded the re-performance before
a live audience at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium; it was released in 2008.
Our current work with Sony Masterworks calls for re-performances® of eight
more jazz albums. Imagine picking through the Columbia and RCA Victor archives,
choosing your favorite solo piano recordings. But, now you can hear them as if
you were sitting in the room the moment they were recorded.
What would you pick? What performers do you crave to hear in the most modern
sound? Which albums do you consider as "5 stars for Performance, but 1 star for
Sound?"
Tell us your favorite solo piano albums, preferably ones more than 50 years old.
We'll see if we can get them on our short list.
